DTC P1464: Fuel Level Sensor Circuit - Ground Signal: Description
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder and 2002 Infiniti QX4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The fuel level sensor is mounted in the fuel level sensor/pump unit. The sensor detects fuel level in fuel tank and transmits a signal to ECM. Fuel level sensor/pump unit consists of 2 parts, one is mechanical float and the other side is variable resistor. Fuel level sensor output voltage changes depending on movement of fuel mechanical float.
ECM receives 2 signals from the fuel level sensor. One is fuel level sensor power supply circuit, and the other is fuel level sensor ground circuit. This diagnosis indicates the latter to detect open circuit malfunction.
