DTC Confirmation Test (Using CONSULT-II)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder and 2002 Infiniti QX4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Before performing test, place vehicle on level ground, ensure fuel tank level is between 1/4-3/4 and ambient temperature is 32-86°F (0-32°C). Ensure EVAP-CPVCSV hoses are installed correctly. Open hood before proceeding. If DTC confirmation procedure had been previously run, turn ignition off and wait at least 10 seconds before continuing.
  1. Verify that fuel cap is installed properly. Turn until ratcheting sound is heard.
  2. Turn ignition on. Turn ignition off and wait at least 10 seconds. Turn ignition on and select DATA MONITOR mode with CONSULT-II.
  3. Ensure the following conditions are met:
    • COOLAN TEMP/S: 32-158°F (0-70°C)
    • INT/A TEMP SE: 32-86°F (0-30°C)
  4. Select EVP SML LEAK P0442/P1442 of EVAPORATIVE SYSTEM in DTC WORK SUPPORT mode with CONSULT- II. Follow instructions displayed.
    NOTE: If engine speed cannot be maintained within range displayed on CONSULT-II screen, perform basic inspection. See appropriate BASIC INSPECTION in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article.
  5. If OK is displayed on CONSULT-II, system is okay at this time. If NG is displayed, select SELF-DIAGH RESULTS mode and ensure that EVAP GROSS LEAK [P0455] is displayed. If display is as specified, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  . If P0422 is displayed, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  for DTC P0422: EVAP CONTROL SYSTEM - SMALL LEAK DETECTED.
