Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder and 2002 Infiniti QX4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect IAT sensor 2-pin harness connector. IAT is located in air intake duct behind front bumper. See Fig 1 . Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and IAT sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow/Purple wire). Voltage should be about 5 volts. If voltage is as specified, leave harness connector disconnected and go to step  3 . If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
  2. Check following:
    • Check for poor, loose, corroded or damaged terminal connections at Gray Super Multiple Junction (SMJ) block E1 and M1 terminals 4s and 5s. SMJ block E-1 is located under left side of dash panel.
    • Check for poor, loose, corroded or damaged terminal connections at Gray 16-pin in-line harness connectors F22 and M33 terminals No. 13 and 14. In-line harness connectors are located under dash panel, near ECM. See Figure .
    • Check for open or short in circuits between ECM and IAT sensor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
    • Check for open between IAT sensor and Transmission Control Module (TCM).
If problem is found, repair as necessary. If no problem is found, go to next step.
  3. Remove IAT from air duct. Measure resistance between IAT sensor terminals No. 3 and 5 at ambient room temperature and at 176°F (80°C). Resistance should be within acceptable range shown in illustration. See Fig 2 . If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace IAT sensor.
  4. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
