Pathfinder & QX4
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2002 Nissan Xterra, 2002 Nissan Sentra, 2002 Nissan Quest, 2002 Nissan Pathfinder, and 2002 Nissan Maxima. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- If CONSULT-II is available, go to next step. If CONSULT-II is not available, go to step 3.
- Using CONSULT-II in DATA MONITOR mode, observe PW/ST SIGNAL in specified conditions. See CHECKING POWER STEERING SWITCH FUNCTION (PATHFINDER & QX4) table. If PW/ST SIGNAL is as specified, go to step 8. If signal is not as specified, go to step 4.CHECKING POWER STEERING SWITCH FUNCTION (PATHFINDER & QX4)
Condition PW/ST Signal Steering In Neutral Position OFF Steering Wheel Turned ON - Start engine. Backprobing at ECM, measure voltage between ground and ECM terminal No. 47 (Red/Black wire). See Figure and Figure . With steering wheel fully turned, voltage should be about zero volts. When steering wheel is not being turned, voltage should be about 5 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to step 8. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect power steering pressure switch harness connector. See Figure. Check continuity between ground and power steering pressure switch harness connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire). Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to voltage. If problem is found, repair as necessary. If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM 116-pin harness connector. For ECM location, see Figure. Check continuity of Red/Black wire between power steering pressure switch harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 47. See Figure. Also, check circuit for short to ground and short to voltage. If problem is found, go to next step. If no problem is found, go to step 7.
- Check following:
- Check for poor, loose, corroded or damaged terminal connections in in-line harness connectors F23 and M32. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
- Check for poor, loose, corroded or damaged terminal connections in in-line harness connectors E1 and M1.
- Check for poor, loose, corroded or damaged terminal connections in in-line harness connectors E48 and E102.
- Check for open or short in Red/Black wire between power steering oil pressure switch and ECM.
- Check power steering pressure switch. See POWER STEERING PRESSURE SWITCH . If problem is found, replace as necessary. If power steering pressure switch is okay, go to next step.
- No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
