DTC Confirmation Test (Overall Function Check)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Quest. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Use the following test to check overall function of Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch circuit. During this test, DTC may not be confirmed.

Malfunction is detected when PNP switch signal does not change between starting and driving. Possible causes are:

CAUTION: DO NOT use ECM ground terminals when measuring voltage.

To check overall function of PNP switch circuit, turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and ECM terminal No. 22 (Gray/Red wire) by backprobing. See Figure and Figure . With transmission in Park or Neutral, about zero volts should exist. With transmission in any other gear, about 5 volts should exist. If voltage is not as specified, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE .
