Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Quest. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect TP switch harness connector. See Figure. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and TP switch harness connector terminal No. 5 (Blue/Yellow wire). See Figure. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open or short circuit and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. See Figure. Check continuity of Brown/Yellow wire between ECM harness connector terminal No. 28 and TP switch harness connector terminal No. 6. See Figure and Figure . Also, check circuit for short to ground and short to voltage. Repair circuit as necessary and retest system. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Reconnect all harness connectors. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Check ignition timing, base idle speed, closed TP switch idle position adjustment and target idle speed. See ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS article. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect TP switch harness connector. Check continuity between TP switch terminals No. 5 and 6 (component side). Continuity should exist when accelerator pedal is released. Continuity should not exist when accelerator pedal is depressed. If continuity is as specified, go to step 6. If continuity is not as specified, go to next step.
- Adjust TP sensor. See ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS article. If TP sensor will not adjust properly, replace TP sensor. If TP sensor adjusts properly, go to next step.
- Reconnect all harness connectors. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Stop engine and turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and ECM terminal No. 23 (Red wire) by backprobing, with throttle in specified positions. See THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR VOLTAGE table. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step. If voltage is as specified, go to step 7.
- No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
CAUTION:
DO NOT use ECM ground terminals when measuring voltage.
