Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Quest. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Turn ignition off. Loosen and retighten engine ground bolts. See Figure. Disconnect distributor 6-pin harness connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and distributor 6-pin harness connector terminal No. 5 (Black/White wire). See Fig 1. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open or short circuit and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. See Figure. Check continuity of Orange wire between distributor 6-pin harness connector terminal No. 4 and ECM harness connector terminals No. 49. See Figure and Fig 1 . Also, check continuity of White wire between distributor 6-pin harness connector terminal No. 3 and ECM harness connector terminals No. 44 and 48. Also, check circuits for short to ground and short to voltage. Repair circuit(s) as necessary and retest system. If circuits are okay, go to next step.
- Check continuity between engine ground and distributor 6-pin harness connector terminal No. 6 (Black/Red wire). Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to voltage. Repair circuit as necessary and retest system. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Reconnect all harness connectors. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Measure voltage between ground ECM terminals No. 44, 48 and 49, under conditions in pin voltage chart. See PIN VOLTAGE CHARTS article. If voltage and waveforms are as specified, go to next step. If voltage or waveforms are not as specified, replace distributor assembly and retest system.
- No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
