Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Quest. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. See Figure. Measure resistance between ground and ECM harness connector terminal No. 64 (White wire). See Figure. Resistance should be 500-620 k/ohms at 77°F (25°C). If resistance is as specified, go to step  4. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect knock sensor harness connector located on top of cylinder block, under intake manifold. Check continuity of White wire between knock sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 64. Also, check circuit for short to ground and short to voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair circuit as necessary and retest system. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  3. Measure resistance between ground and knock sensor terminal No. 2 (component side). Resistance should be 500-620 k/ohms at 77°F (25°C). If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace knock sensor and retest system.
  4. Loosen and retighten engine ground bolts. See Figure. Disconnect Black, 2-pin connector F-209 located on rear of engine. Check continuity between ground and connector F-209 terminal No. 2 (Black/Red wire). Also, check circuit for short to voltage. Repair circuit as necessary and retest system. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  5. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
