Diagnostic Procedure (M/T)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PNP switch harness connector. See Fig 1. Check continuity between ground and PNP switch harness connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire). Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to voltage. Repair circuit as necessary and retest system. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Disconnect ECM harness connector. See Figure. Check continuity of Green/Orange wire between PNP switch harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 43. See Figure. Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to ground and short to voltage. Repair circuit as necessary and retest system. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Check continuity between PNP switch terminals (component side). With transmission in Neutral, continuity should exist. With transmission in any other gear, continuity should not exist. If continuity is as specified, go to next step. If continuity is not as specified, replace PNP switch and retest system.
- No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLESHOOTING - NO CODES article.
