Diagnostic Procedure (A/T)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PNP switch harness connector. See Fig 1. Check continuity between ground and PNP switch harness connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire). See Fig 2. Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to voltage. Repair circuit as necessary and retest system. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect ECM harness connector. See Figure. Check continuity of Green/Orange wire between PNP switch harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 43. See Figure and Fig 2 . Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to ground and short to voltage. Repair circuit as necessary and retest system. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  3. Check continuity between appropriate PNP switch terminals (component side) with shift lever in appropriate position. See PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH CONTINUITY . See Fig 2. If problem exists, replace PNP switch. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  4. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLESHOOTING - NO CODES article.
