Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Remove instrument cluster and disconnect combination meter connectors. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and combination meter connector terminal No. 41 (Yellow wire). If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check 10-amp fuse No. 30 in passenger compartment fuse block (left end of dash) replace if necessary. If fuse is OK, check fuse block connector and terminals for damaged, loose or corroded connections. If connector and terminals are OK, repair open or short circuit in yellow wire between combination meter and fuse block and perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repairs.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Check continuity between ECM connector terminal No. 18 (Orange/Blue wire) and combination meter terminal No. 20. Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to ground and short to voltage. If continuity is as specified go to next step. If problem exists, check intermediate connectors in circuit and repair or replace as necessary. If intermediate connectors are OK, repair open or short circuit in Orange/Blue wire between ECM and combination meter and perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repairs.
- Check combination meter (component side) for continuity under the following conditions. See COMBINATION METER MIL CIRCUIT CONTINUITY CHECK . If continuity is as specified, go to next step. If continuity is not as specified, replace combination meter and perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repairs.COMBINATION METER MIL CIRCUIT CONTINUITY CHECK
Condition Between Combination Meter Terminal No. (Observe Polarity) Continuity Result 1 20 (+) & 41 (-) Should Exist 2 41 (+) & 20 (-) Should Not Exist - Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLESHOOTING - NO CODES article.
