Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Loosen and retighten engine ground bolts. See Figure and Figure . Disconnect CKP sensor and ECM harness connectors. See Figure. Check continuity of Brown wire between CKP sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 65. See Figure. Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to ground and short to voltage. Repair circuit as necessary and retest system. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  2. Connect ECM harness connector. Check continuity between ground and CKP sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire). Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to voltage. See 2.5L under ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS in ELECTRICAL. Repair circuit as necessary and retest system. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  3. If DTC P0335 is present, go to next step. If DTC P1336 is present, loosen and retighten CKP sensor bolt and retest system. If problem still exists, go to next step.
  4. Remove CKP sensor. Inspect CKP sensor for physical damage. Measure resistance between CKP sensor terminals (component side). Resistance should be 166-204 ohms at 68°F (20°C). If damage exists or resistance is not as specified, replace CKP sensor and retest system. If damage does not exist and resistance is as specified, go to next step.
  5. If DTC P0335 is present, go to next step. If DTC P1336 is present, inspect flywheel or drive plate teeth for damage. Repair flywheel or drive plate as necessary and retest system. If flywheel or drive plate is okay, go to next step.
  6. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLESHOOTING - NO CODES article.
