DTC Confirmation Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: If DTC confirmation test has been previously performed, always turn ignition off and wait at least 10 seconds before performing next DTC confirmation test.
NOTE: Before proceeding, ensure ambient temperature is more than 14°F (-10°C) and battery voltage is more than 11 volts at idle.
CAUTION: DO NOT use ECM ground terminals when measuring voltage.

With CONSULT-II

  1. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature.
  2. Stop engine and wait at least 5 seconds.
  3. Turn ignition on and select HO2S1 (B1) P1143 or HO2S1 (B2) P1163 of HO2S1 in DTC WORK SUPPORT mode with CONSULT-II.
  4. Touch START on CONSULT-II screen.
  5. Start engine and let it idle for at least 3.5 minutes.
NOTE: Never raise engine speed above 3600 RPM after this step. If the engine speed limit is exceeded, return to step  5 .
  6. When the following conditions are met, TESTING will be displayed on CONSULT-II screen. Maintain these conditions continuously until TESTING changes to COMPLETED (it will take 20 seconds or more).
    • ENG SPEED: 1350-2700 RPM (A/T) or 1450-3200 RPM (M/T).
    • Vehicle speed: less than 62 MPH.
    • B/FUEL SCHDL: 2.6-12.5 msec (A/T) or 2.4-10.0 msec (M/T).

If TESTING is not displayed after 5 minutes, retry from step  2 .

  7. Press SELF-DIAG RESULTS. If NG is displayed, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  . If OK is displayed, system is okay at this time.
NOTE: Use the following test to check overall function of front HO2S circuit. During this test, 1st trip DTC may not be confirmed.
CAUTION: To avoid damage to ECM, do not use ECM ground terminals when measuring voltage.

With Generic Scan Tool (Overall Function Check)

  1. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Measure voltage between ground and ECM terminal No. 94 (bank 1) or No. 62 (bank 2) by backprobing. See Figure and Figure .
  2. While observing voltmeter, increase engine speed to 2000 RPM. The following conditions should exist:
    • Maximum voltage should be more than .6 volt at least once.
    • Minimum voltage should be more than .1 volt at least once.

If voltage is not as specified, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  . If voltage is as specified, system is okay at this time.
