Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
For circuit wiring diagram, see Fig 1
. For connector identification and locations, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
.
- Check Input Signal Circuit
Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM and instrument cluster harness connectors. See Figure . Check between instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 13 (with tachometer) or No. 2 (without tachometer) and ECM harness connector terminal No. 86. See Fig 1 . Also, check harness for short to ground and short to power. If problem is found, go to next step. If problem is not found, go to step 3 . - Detect Malfunctioning Part
Check the following:- Harness connectors M58 and F26.
- Harness for open or short between ECM and instrument cluster.
Repair as necessary. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair.
- Check Speedometer Function
Check speedometer operation. If speedometer operates properly, go to step 5 . If speedometer does not operate properly, go to next step. - Check Speedometer Circuit
Check the following:- Harness connectors M58 and F26.
- Harness for open or short between VSS and instrument cluster.
If problem is found, repair as necessary. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair. If problem is not found, check instrument cluster and vehicle speed sensor. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
- Check For Intermittent
Check for intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair.
