Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: For circuit wiring diagram, see Fig 1 . For connector identification and locations, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  .
  1. If using CONSULT-II, go to next step. If not using CONSULT-II, go to step  3 .
  2. Check EVAP-CVCV Circuit

Turn ignition off then on. Select VENT CONTROL/V in ACTIVE TEST mode with CONSULT-II. Press ON/OFF. EVAP-CVCV should click. For location, see Figure . If EVAP-CVCV clicks, go to step  7 . If EVAP-CVCV does not click, go to next step.
  3. Check Power Supply Circuit

Turn ignition off. Disconnect EVAP-CVCV harness connector. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and EVAP-CVCV harness connector terminal No. 1. See Fig 1 . If battery voltage exists, go to step  5 . If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  4. Detect Malfunctioning Part

    Check the following:
    • Harness connectors M14 and B1.
    • Fuse block connector M1.
    • Fuse No. 9 (10-amp)
    • Harness for open or short between EVAP-CVCV and fuse.

Repair as necessary. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  to verify repair.

  5. Check Output Signal Circuit

Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. See Figure . Check continuity between EVAP-CVCV harness connector terminal No. 2 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 102. See Fig 1 . Also, check harness for short to ground and short to power. If problem is found, go to next step. If problem is not found, go to step  7 .
  6. Detect Malfunctioning Part

    Check the following:
    • Harness connectors B3 and M16.
    • Harness connectors M59 and F27.
    • Harness for open or short between EVAP-CVCV and ECM.

Repair as necessary. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  to verify repair.

  7. Check Hose For Clogging

Disconnect hose from EVAP-CVCV. Check hose for clogging. If problem is found, repair as necessary. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  to verify repair. If problem is not found, go to next step.
  8. Check EVAP-CVCV

Check EVAP-CVCV as shown in illustration. See Figure . If EVAP-CVCV is okay, go to next step. If EVAP-CVCV is not okay, replace EVAP-CVCV. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  to verify repair.
  9. Check For Intermittent

Check for intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  to verify repair.
