Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: For circuit wiring diagram, see Fig 1 . For connector identification and locations, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  .

  1. Check Power Supply

Turn ignition off. Disconnect EVAP-CPVCSV harness connector. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and EVAP-CPVCSV harness connector terminal No. 1. See Fig 1 . If battery voltage exists, go to step  3 . If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  2. Detect Malfunctioning Part

    Check the following:
    • Harness connectors E10 and F48.
    • Fuse block connector E103
    • Fuse No. 20 (10-amp).
    • Harness for open or short between EVAP-CPVCSV and fuse.

Repair as necessary. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  to verify repair.

  3. Check Output Signal Circuit

Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. See Figure . Check continuity between EVAP-CPVCSV harness connector terminal No. 2 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 14. See Fig 1 . Also, check harness for short to ground and short to power. If problem is found, repair as necessary. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  to verify repair. If problem is not found, go to next step.
  4. Check EVAP-CPVCSV

If not using CONSULT-II, go to next step. If using CONSULT-II, start engine. Perform PURG VOL CONT/V in ACTIVE TEST mode with CONSULT-II. Engine speed should vary according to valve opening. If operation is as specified, go to step  6 . If operation is not as specified, go to next step.
  5. Check EVAP-CPVCSV

Turn ignition off. Remove EVAP-CPVCSV. See Figure . Using jumper wires, apply battery voltage to EVAP-CPVCSV terminals. See Figure . Air should flow between ports "A" and "B". Remove jumper wires. Air should not flow. If operation is as specified, go to next step. If operation is not as specified, replace EVAP-CPVCSV. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  to verify repair.
  6. Check For Intermittent

Check for intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  to verify repair.
