Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
For circuit wiring diagram, see Fig 1
. For connector identification and locations, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
.
- Check Power Supply
Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECT sensor harness connector. See Fig 2 . Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and ECT sensor harness connector terminal No. 1. See Fig 1 . If voltage is about 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not about 5 volts, repair open or short between ECT sensor and ECM. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair. - Check Ground Circuit
Turn ignition off. Check continuity between engine ground and ECT sensor harness connector terminal No. 2. Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to power. If problem is found, go to next step. If problem is not found, go to step 4 . - Detect Malfunctioning Part
Check the following:- Harness for open or short between ECT sensor and ECM.
- Harness for open or short between ECT sensor and Transmission Control Module (TCM).
- Joint connector No. 3.
Repair as necessary. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair.
- Check ECT Sensor
Check ECT sensor as shown in illustration. See Fig 3 . If ECT sensor is okay, go to next step. If ECT sensor is not okay, replace ECT sensor. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair. - Check For Intermittent
Check for intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair.
