Air Bag Warning Light Stays On

  1. If air bag components have deployed, complete appropriate repairs. See POST-COLLISION INSPECTION  . If air bag components have not deployed, go to next step.
  2. Inspect AIR BAG fuse, located in fuse block in lower left side of instrument panel. If AIR BAG fuse is not okay, go to next step. If AIR BAG fuse is okay, go to step  4 .
  3. Replace AIR BAG fuse. Turn ignition on. If AIR BAG fuse blows again, repair short to ground in wiring harness. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If AIR BAG fuse does not blow, system is normal.
  4. Connect CONSULT tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), located under left side of instrument panel. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Touch START (NISSAN BASED VHCL) on CONSULT tester. If AIR BAG is displayed on CONSULT tester, go to next step. If AIR BAG is not displayed on CONSULT tester, inspect diagnosis sensor unit connector. See DIAGNOSIS SENSOR UNIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If connector is not damaged, replace diagnosis sensor unit.
  5. Inspect wire harness connectors between diagnosis sensor unit and AIR BAG warning light for proper connection. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If connectors are connected properly, replace diagnosis sensor unit. If connectors are not connected properly, reconnect properly. If AIR BAG warning light still stays on, replace wire harness.
