Driver-Side Air Bag Module & Spiral Cable: Removal

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
- Remove lower lid (access cover) from steering wheel. See Fig 1 . Disconnect air bag module connector. Remove side lids from steering wheel. On models equipped with Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) switch, remove switch. On all models, remove and discard driver-side air bag module bolts. Remove driver-side air bag module from steering wheel.
- Center steering wheel with front wheels in straight-ahead position. Disconnect horn connector. Remove steering wheel nut. Using appropriate steering wheel puller, remove steering wheel. DO NOT over tighten puller bolt on steering wheel.
- Remove upper and lower steering column covers. Disconnect spiral cable connector. Remove 4 screws from spiral cable. Remove spiral cable from steering column.
