Diagnostic Procedure 1, Check "B" Terminal Circuit

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Nissan Maxima. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the fuel pump fuse. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Crank or start the engine (if possible) until the fuel pressure is released.
  2. Turn the ignition switch "OFF".
  3. Make sure the starter motor connector F27 terminal "B" (Black/Red wire) connection is clean and tight.
  4. Check voltage between starter connector F27 terminal "B" (Black/Red wire) and ground using a digital circuit tester. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Battery voltage should exist. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is as not specified, check harness between the battery and the starter motor for open circuit.
  5. Check voltage between starter motor connector F27 terminal "B" (Black/Red wire) and battery positive terminal using a digital circuit tester. With ignition switch in "START" position, voltage should be less than 0.5 volt. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is as not specified, check harness between the battery and the starter motor for continuity.
  6. Check voltage between starter motor case and battery negative terminal using a digital circuit tester. With ignition switch in "START" position, voltage should be less than 0.2 volt. If voltage is as specified, starter motor "B" terminal circuit is OK. Further inspection is necessary. Refer to WORK FLOW . If voltage is as not specified, check the starter motor case and ground for poor continuity.
