- Remove caliper and brake pads. Ensure bearings are clean and properly lubricated. Using Bearing Lock Nut Puller (KV40105400), tighten lock nut to 58-72 ft. lbs. (79-98 N.m). Rotate hub in both directions to seat bearings.
- Loosen lock nut until nut can be turned by hand. Rotate hub in both directions. Retighten lock nut to 4-13 INCH lbs. (.5-1.5 N.m). Using a dial indicator, check wheel bearing axial end play. Zero end play should exist. Measure preload with pull gauge on one of wheel studs.
- Tighten lock nut 15-30 degrees to allow installation of lock washer. Rotate hub in both directions again. Using previous method, measure preload again. Correct preload should equal second measurement minus first measurement. Correct preload is 1.59-4.72 lbs. (.7-2.1 kg).
