Reassembly (Outer Joint)

  1. Mount axle shaft into soft-jaw vise, with outer joint facing up.
  2. Press on NEW speed sensor rotor, if equipped, to axle shaft using drift.
  3. Wrap vinyl tape around shaft splines to prevent damage to boot during installation.
  4. Install boot and clamp onto shaft. See Figure .
  5. Drive joint assembly onto shaft by tapping on wheel hub nut with hammer. Install joint securely, aligning marks that were made during disassembly. See Fig 1 .

  6. Pack joint with specified amount of grease. See BOOT GREASE CAPACITY  .
  7. Ensure boot is properly positioned on axle shaft groove. Set boot so that it does not swell and deform when its length is set to specified length of 6.42 in. (163 mm). See Fig 2 .

  8. Lock boot clamps securely with appropriate tool. See Figure
