Reassembly (Inner Joint)

  1. Mount axle shaft into soft-jaw vise, with inner joint facing up.
  2. Wrap vinyl tape around shaft splines to prevent damage to boot during installation.
  3. Install boot and clamp onto shaft. See Figure .
  4. Install spider assembly, aligning marks made during disassembly. Install NEW snap ring.
  5. Pack joint with specified amount of grease. See BOOT GREASE CAPACITY  .
  6. Install slide joint housing, aligning marks made during disassembly.
  7. Ensure boot is properly positioned on axle shaft groove. Set boot so that it does not swell and deform when its length is set to specified length of 6.48-6.80 in. (164.7-172.7 mm). See Fig 1 .

  8. Lock boot clamps securely with suitable tool. See Fig 2 .
