Rear Brake Shoes: Removal

NOTE:
Be careful not to damage wheel cylinder piston boots. Be careful not to damage parking brake cable when separating it from backing plate.
- Release parking brake lever fully, then remove drum. If drum is hard to remove, the following procedures should be carried out:
- Remove brake adjuster plug. Then shorten adjuster to make clearance between brake shoe and drum as shown. See Fig 1 .
- Install 2 bolts, 8-mm with a 1.25 thread pitch, into threaded holes in drum. Tighten bolts evenly and gradually until drum is removed.
- After removing the brake shoe hold pin, by rotating push retainer, remove leading shoe then remove trailing shoe. See Fig 2 . Remove retainer springs and be careful not to damage wheel cylinder piston boots. Remove the rear brake adjuster.
- Disconnect parking brake cable from toggle lever. Be careful not to damage parking brake cable when separating it. Remove the toggle lever retainer ring with a suitable tool. Then separate toggle lever and brake shoe.
