WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Nissan Pathfinder, 2003 Nissan Pathfinder, and 2002 Nissan Pathfinder. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to deform or bend brake pipes during installation of booster. Replace clevis pin if damaged. Refill with new brake fluid "DOT 3". Never reuse drained brake fluid. Due to the narrow angle of installation, the threads can be damaged by the dash panel, take care not to damage brake booster mounting bolt threads when installing.
- Before fitting booster, temporarily adjust clevis to proper length by measuring distance of "A". See Fig 1 . See POWER BRAKE UNIT INPUT & OUTPUT ROD LENGTH SPECIFICATIONS table. Fit booster, then secure mounting nuts (brake pedal bracket to brake booster) lightly.
- Connect brake pedal and booster input rod with clevis pin. Tighten brake booster nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install master cylinder. See MASTER CYLINDER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Adjust brake pedal height and free play. See BRAKE PEDAL FREE PLAY and BRAKE PEDAL HEIGHT . Tighten input rod lock nut for clevis to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Attach a hand-held vacuum pump to brake booster supply port. Apply 20 in. Hg. of vacuum to brake booster. Add preload of 4.4 lbs. (2 kg) to output rod. Measure length of output rod extending from brake booster housing. See Fig 2 .
- Adjust output rod length if necessary. See POWER BRAKE UNIT INPUT & OUTPUT ROD LENGTH SPECIFICATIONS table. If output rod length cannot be adjusted properly, replace brake booster.
