WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Nissan Pathfinder, 2003 Nissan Pathfinder, and 2002 Nissan Pathfinder. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Only perform this procedure under safe road and traffic conditions. Use extreme caution.
Burnish the brake contact surfaces according to the following procedure after refinishing or replacing brake rotors, after replacing pads or linings, or if a soft pedal occurs at very low mileage:
- Drive the vehicle on a straight smooth road at 31 MPH.
- Use medium brake pedal/foot effort to bring the vehicle to a complete stop from 31 MPH. Adjust brake pedal/foot pressure so that vehicle stopping time equals 3-5 seconds.
- To cool the brake system, drive the vehicle at 31 MPH for one minute without stopping.
- Repeat steps 1 - 3 , 10 or more times to complete the burnishing procedure.
