Removal & Installation

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  . Remove driver-side air bag module and steering wheel. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE & SPIRAL CABLE  .
  2. Remove lock housing cover, combination switch and driver-side lower panel. See Figure . Remove cluster lid, instrument cluster, center vent grille and center cluster lid. Disconnect harness connectors.
  3. Remove audio assembly and A/C control unit. Remove ashtray, shift lever boots, console box, glove box and passenger-side instrument lower panel. Remove instrument lower center panel, defroster grille and A-pillar trim. Remove nuts and bolts from instrument panel. Remove instrument panel from vehicle. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Activate air bag system.
