WARNING:
Components are very hot after deployment. Personal injury may result. Wait at least 30 minutes before handling an air bag module and 10 minutes before handling a seat belt pretensioner.
NOTE:
Before using Air Bag Deployment Tool (J38381), ensure tool is functioning properly. See DEPLOYMENT TOOL CHECK

Deploy only one component at a time.
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Park vehicle outdoors with at least 20 feet (6 m) of open space around vehicle. Place a fully charged 12-volt battery 16 feet (5 m) from vehicle.
- Ensure Deployment Tool (J38381) is not connected to battery. Disconnect all air bag module and seat belt pretensioner connectors. Connect deployment tool to component being deployed. For driver-side air bag module and curtain air bag modules, use Deployment Adapter (J38381-80). For passenger-side air bag module, use Deployment Adapter (J38381-65). For side impact air bag modules and curtain air bag modules, use Deployment Adapter (J44230). For seat belt pretensioners, connect deployment tool directly to component.
- Connect Red clip of deployment tool to positive battery post. Connect Black clip of deployment tool to negative battery post. Light on right side of deployment tool (deployment tool power) should glow Green, not Red. If light glows Red, reverse battery connections.
- Press button on deployment tool. Light on left side of tool, marked AIR BAG CONNECTOR VOLTAGE will illuminate and air bag module or seat belt pretensioner will deploy.
