DTC Confirmation Test (Overall Function Check)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Use the following test to check overall function of PNP switch circuit. During this test, DTC may not be confirmed.
Malfunction is detected when PNP switch signal does not change between starting and driving. Possible causes are:
- PNP switch circuit open or shorted.
- Defective PNP switch.
Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, backprobe PCM harness connector and measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 42 (Green/Orange wire) at PCM harness connector. See Figure and Figure . With transmission in Park or Neutral, about zero volts should exist. With transmission in any other position, battery voltage should exist. If voltage is not as specified, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If voltage is as specified, problem may be intermittent. See TESTING PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
