DTC Confirmation Test
Malfunction is detected when EGR flow is detected under conditions that do not call for EGR. Possible causes are:
- EGR volume control valve circuit open or shorted.
- EGR volume control valve stuck open or leaking.
- Defective EGR temperature sensor.
Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, ensure engine coolant temperature is 14-122°F (-10-50°C). Using a DVOM, backprobe PCM harness connector and measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 72 (Purple wire) at PCM harness connector. See Figure and Figure . Voltage should be less than 4.8 volts. Start engine and let idle for at least 80 seconds. Turn ignition off. Turn ignition on. See TESTING PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
