Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. See Figure . Remove instrument cluster and disconnect harness connectors. Check continuity of Purple/Red wire between terminal No. 60 at PCM harness connector and terminal No. 13 at instrument cluster Brown, 24-pin harness connector. See Figure and Fig 1 . Continuity should exist. Also check circuit for short to ground and short to voltage. If problem exists, repair as necessary and retest system. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  2. Reconnect all harness connectors. Test drive vehicle and check speedometer operation. If speedometer operates properly, go to next step. If speedometer does not operate properly, repair speedometer or circuit as necessary. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  3. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See TESTING PROCEDURE  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
