Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Disconnect fuel pump assembly harness connector located behind access cover, under rear seat. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 2 (Green wire) at fuel pump assembly harness connector. See Figure . If voltage is about 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not about 5 volts, repair open or short in Green wire between instrument cluster, PCM and fuel pump assembly, then retest system.
- Turn ignition off. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 5 (Black wire) at fuel pump assembly harness connector. Continuity should exist. Also check circuit for short to voltage. If problem exist, repair as necessary and retest system. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Disconnect PCM harness connector. See Figure . Check continuity of Green wire between terminal No. 2 at fuel pump assembly harness connector and terminal No. 80 at PCM harness connector. Check continuity of Black wire between terminal No. 5 at fuel pump assembly harness connector and terminal No. 79 (Black/White wire) at PCM harness connector. See Figure and Figure . Continuity should exist. Also check circuit for short to voltage. If problem exists, repair as necessary and retest system. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Remove fuel pump assembly from fuel tank. Measure resistance between terminals No. 2 and 5 at fuel level sensor (component side), with sensor at specified positions. See FUEL LEVEL SENSOR RESISTANCE table. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace fuel level sensor and retest system.
- No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See TESTING PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
