DTC Confirmation Test

NOTE:
Ensure engine coolant temperature is less than 107°F (40°C) before performing this confirmation test. Ensure battery voltage is greater than 10 volts at idle before performing this confirmation procedure.
Malfunction is detected when an improper voltage signal is sent to ECM through the EGR valve. Possible causes are:
- EGR volume control valve circuit open or shorted.
- Defective EGR volume control valve.
Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select DATA MONITOR. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM 10 times. If first trip DTC is sets, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If first trip DTC is not set, problem may be intermittent.
