DTC Confirmation Test

NOTE:
Before performing confirmation test, ensure battery voltage is greater than 10.5 volts.
Malfunction is detected when either one-degree signal or 180-degree signal is not sent to PCM during engine cranking. Possible causes are:
- CMP sensor circuit is open or shorted.
- Defective CMP sensor.
- Defective starter.
- Starter circuit fault.
- Weak battery.
Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select DATA MONITOR. Crank engine for at least 2 seconds and run engine at idle for at least 5 seconds. If first trip DTC is sets, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If first trip DTC is not set, problem may be intermittent. See TESTING PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
