DTC Confirmation Test

Misfire is detected when crankshaft position sensor detects a fluctuation in engine speed. Possible causes are:
- Incorrect spark plugs.
- Insufficient compression.
- Incorrect fuel pressure.
- Defective EGR valve.
- Injector circuit open or shorted.
- Defective injectors.
- Intake air leak.
- Secondary ignition circuit open or shorted.
- Lack of fuel.
- Defective drive plate or flywheel.
- Defective front Air-Fuel Ratio (A/F) sensor (sensor 1).
Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Using scan tool, select DATA MONITOR. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Turn ignition off and wait at least 10 seconds. Start engine and drive vehicle at 1500-3000 RPM for at least 3 minutes. Hold accelerator pedal as steady as possible. If first trip DTC is sets, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If first trip DTC is not set, problem may be intermittent. See TESTING PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
