Procedure "A"
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect all harness connectors. Remove cooling fan relay No. 1. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminals No. 1 (Brown wire), No. 3 (Green wire) and No. 6 (Blue/White wire) at cooling fan relay No. 1 socket. See Fig 1 . If battery voltage exists at all terminals, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist at any terminal, repair open or short in appropriate circuit and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect both cooling fan motor harness connectors located on fan shrouds. Check continuity of Green/Red wire between terminal No. 7 at cooling fan relay No. 1 socket and terminal No. 1 at left cooling fan motor harness connector. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . Continuity should exist. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 4 (Black wire) at left cooling fan motor harness connector. Continuity should exist. Check continuity in Yellow wire between terminal No. 5 at cooling fan relay No. 1 harness connector and terminal No. 1 at right cooling fan motor harness connector. Continuity should exist. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 4 (Black wire) at right cooling fan motor harness connector. Continuity should exist. Also check circuits for short to ground and short to voltage. If problem exists, repair as necessary and retest system. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Disconnect PCM harness connector. See Figure . Check continuity of Light Green/Red wire between terminal No. 2 at cooling fan relay No. 1 socket and terminal No. 13 at PCM harness connector. See Figure and Fig 1 . Continuity should exist. Also check circuit for short to ground and short to voltage. If problem exists, repair as necessary and retest system. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Using fused jumper wires, apply battery voltage and ground between terminals No. 1 and 2 at cooling fan relay No. 1 (component side). See Fig 3 . Continuity should exist between terminals No. 3 and 5, and between terminals No. 6 and 7 at cooling fan relay (component side). Remove jumper wires. Continuity should not exist between terminals No. 3 and 5, or between terminals No. 6 and 7 at cooling fan relay No. 1 (component side). If continuity is as specified, go to next step. If continuity is not as specified, replace cooling fan relay No. 1 and retest system.
- Using fused jumper wires, connect positive battery voltage to terminal No. 1 and ground terminal No. 4 at each cooling fan motor connector (component side). See Fig 2 . Fan should operate at low speed. Using additional jumper wires, apply battery positive to terminal No. 2 and ground to terminal No. 3. Fan should operate at high speed. If fan operates as specified, go to next step. If fan does not operate as specified, replace appropriate cooling fan motor and retest system.
- No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See TESTING PROCEDURE .
