Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Nissan Altima. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The knock sensor is attached to the cylinder block. See Fig 1. It senses engine knocking using a piezoelectric element. A knocking vibration from the cylinder block is sensed as vibrational pressure. This pressure is converted into a voltage signal and sent to the ECM.

  1. Locate and disconnect knock sensor harness connector.
  2. CAUTION: Be careful when removing knock sensor, do not drop the sensor. Do not use any sensor that has been dropped or physically damaged. Use only new sensors.
  3. Remove bolt holding knock sensor in place, carefully remove knock sensor.
  4. Installation is the reverse order of removal. Tighten components to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
