Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Nissan Altima. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Be careful with the sensor and avoid impacts such as from dropping. Do not dissemble. Keep sensor away from metal particles.
CAUTION: Do not place sensor close to magnetic materials.

The crankshaft position sensor (POS) is located on the cylinder block rear housing (2.5L) and on the oil pan (3.5L) facing the gear teeth (cogs) of the signal plate at the end of the crankshaft. It detects the fluctuation of the engine revolution.

  1. Disconnect crankshaft position sensor harness connected.
  2. Remove retaining bolt;
  3. Carefully remove crankshaft position sensor. See Fig 3.
    NOTE: Replace all "O" rings. Always use new "O" rings. On 3.5L, replace rubber seal as necessary.
  4. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
