Fuel Rails & Injectors (3.5L): Removal
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Nissan Altima. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Remove the engine cover using power tool.
- Release the fuel pressure.
- Remove air cleaner case lid and Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor, and air intake tube as an assembly. See Figure and Figure
:
- Disconnect the harness connector from the MAF sensor. See Figure and Figure .
- Disconnect the tube clamp at the electrical throttle control actuator and at the fresh air intake tube. See Figure.
- Remove air cleaner to electric throttle control actuator tube, air cleaner case (upper) with the MAF sensor attached. See Figure.CAUTION: Handle MAF sensor with care, do not shock it, do not dissemble it, do not touch its sensor.
- Remove MAF sensor from air cleaner case, as necessary. See Figure and Figure .
- Remove the resonator in the fender, lifting left fender protector, as necessary.
WARNING: To avoid the danger of being scalded, never drain the coolant when the engine is hot. - Partially drain the coolant when the engine is cool.
- Disconnect fuel tube quick connector at vehicle piping side. See Figure.CAUTION: Cover any engine openings to avoid the entry of any foreign material.
- Disconnect the power brake booster vacuum hose, the coolant hoses from the electric throttle control actuator, the swirl control vacuum lines, the fuel injectors electrical connectors, and the PCV hose.
- Disconnect the electric throttle control actuator electrical connector and coolant hoses.
- Remove the cowl top grille and the windshield wiper assembly. See Fig 2.
- Remove both the right and left wiper arms from the vehicle. Perform the following:
Wiper Arms Stop Location Adjustment
- Prior to wiper arm installation, turn on wiper switch to operate wiper motor and then turn if OFF (Auto Stop).
- Lift the blade up and then set it down onto glass surface to set the blade center to clearance L1 & L2 immediately before tightening nut. See Fig 3.
- Eject washer fluid. Turn on wiper switch to operate wiper motor and then turn it OFF.
- Ensure that wiper blades stop within clearance L1 & L2. See Fig 3. The Clearance L1 is: 0.965-1.555 inch (24.5-39.5 mm). The Clearance L2 is: 1.280-1.870 inch (32.5-47.5 mm). Before reinstalling wiper arm, clean up the pivot area. See Fig 4. This will reduce possibility of wiper arm looseness. Tighten wiper arm nuts to specified torque. Front wiper arm nuts to: 16-19 foot lbs. (20.6-26.5 N.m)
Wiper Arms Removal
- Operate the wiper motor, and stop it at the auto stop position.
- Remove wiper arms from the vehicle. See Fig 5.
- Remove the cowl top cover, see 8.
- Disconnect wiper motor connector.
- Remove bracket and wiper motor assembly. See Fig 6.
- Remove wiper link from wiper frame. See Fig 5.
- Remove wiper motor from wiper frame. See Fig 5.CAUTION: Do not drop the wiper motor or cause it to contact other parts.CAUTION: Check the grease conditions of the motor arm and wiper link joint(s). Apply grease if necessary.
Wiper Arms Installation
- Connect wiper motor to connector. Turn the wiper switch ON to operate wiper motor, then turn the wiper switch OFF (Auto Stop). Tighten components to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Disconnect wiper motor connector.
- Install wiper motor to bracket and wiper link, and install assembly to the vehicle. See Fig 6.
- Connect wiper motor connector. See Fig 5. Turn the wiper switch ON to operate the wiper motor, then turn wiper switch OFF (Auto Stop).
- Install cowl top cover, see 8.
- Install wiper arms. See Fig 5. Tighten components to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS :
- Place windshield washer hose aside. See Fig 7.
- Release clips of both cowl top seal rubber and cowl top cover, and remove cowl top cover.
- Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
- Remove both the right and left wiper arms from the vehicle. Perform the following:
- Disconnect the power steering hose bracket.
- Remove the vacuum tank from the back of the intake manifold collector.
- Remove the intake manifold collector pipe and electric throttle control actuator, by loosening the four bolts in a diagonal pattern.
- Loosen the bolts in the order shown, and remove the intake manifold collector using power tool. See Fig 8.
- Remove the fuel rail with the fuel injectors attached, from the intake manifold. Remove the fuel injector "O" rings and use new "O" rings for installation.
CAUTION:
Handle carefully to avoid any shock to the electric throttle control actuator.
