Fuel Rails & Injectors (3.5L): Installation
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Nissan Altima. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Install the fuel rails with the fuel injectors attached. See Fig 1.
- Carefully install new "O" rings, including the one used with the fuel damper. See Fig 1.
- Lubricate "O" rings by lightly coating with new engine oil.
- Be careful not to damage the "O" rings and surfaces for "O" ring sealing surfaces. Do not expand or twist "O" rings.
- Discard old clips and replace with new ones.
- Make sure that protrusions of fuel injectors are aligned with cutouts of clips after installation. See Fig 1.
- Position clips in grooves on the fuel injectors. See Fig 1.
- Align the protrusions of the fuel tube assembly with those of the fuel injectors. See Fig 1.
- After properly inserting the fuel injectors onto the fuel tube assembly, check that the fuel tube protrusions are engaged with those of the fuel injectors, and the flanges of the fuel tube assembly are fully engaged with the clips. See Fig 1.
- Tighten fuel tube assembly mounting bolts as shown. Tighten components to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . See Fig 2.
- Install the intake manifold collector bolts in the numerical order shown. Tighten components to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . See Fig 3.
- Tighten the mounting bolts of the intake manifold collector pipe bolts and electric throttle control actuator assembly. Tighten components to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- After installation, it is necessary to re-calibrate the electric throttle control actuator.
- Perform, Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning when the harness connector of the electric throttle control actuator is disconnected. See THROTTLE VALVE CLOSED POSITION LEARNING .
- Perform, Idle Air Volume Learning when electric throttle control actuator is replaced. See IDLE AIR VOLUME LEARNING .
- Attach the quick connector. See Fig 4. Install the quick connector as follows:
- Make sure no foreign substances are deposited in and around the fuel tube and quick connector and that there is no damage.
- Align the center to insert the quick connector straight onto the fuel tube.
- Install the fuel tube until a click is heard.
- Install the quick connector cap on the quick connector joint. Align the arrow mark on the quick connector cap to the upper side.
- Install the fuel hose into the hose clamp.
- Installation of remaining components is the reverse of removal.NOTE: Use mirrors for checking fuel system areas out of direct line of sight.
- Inspect the installed components, make sure that there is no fuel leakage at the connections, by applying fuel pressure to lines by turning ignition switch ON, with engine not running. Then check for fuel leaks at connections and along fuel lines. Repair any leaks.
- Start the engine and rev it up. Inspect connections and lines for leaks. Use caution and repair any leaks in the fuel system.
- Perform Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning after finishing repairs. See THROTTLE VALVE CLOSED POSITION LEARNING .
- If electric throttle control actuator is replaced, perform procedures for Idle Air Volume Learning after finishing repairs. See IDLE AIR VOLUME LEARNING .
CAUTION:
After properly connecting fuel tube assembly to injector and fuel hose, check connection for fuel leakage.
CAUTION:
Allow engine to cool before performing repairs to fuel system to avoid possible ignition and fire.
CAUTION:
Do not touch engine immediately after stopping as engine is extremely hot.
