Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Loosen and retighten engine ground screws. Go to next step.
  2. Disconnect electric throttle control actuator harness connector. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and TP sensor terminal No. 1 with CONSULT-II or tester. Voltage should be approximately 5 volts. If yes, go to next step. If no, repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  3. Turn ignition off. Check harness continuity between electric throttle control actuator terminal 5 and engine ground. Continuity should exist. Check harness for short to ground and short to power. If okay, go to next step. If not okay, repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  4. Disconnect ECM 116-pin harness connector. For ECM location, see Figure. Check harness continuity between ECM terminal No. 50 and electric throttle control actuator terminal No. 4. Check harness continuity between ECM terminal No. 69 and electric throttle control actuator terminal No. 2. Continuity should exist. Check harnesses for short to ground and short to power. If okay, go to next step. If not okay, repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  5. Reconnect all disconnected harness connectors. Perform THROTTLE VALVE CLOSED POSITION LEARNING  under PROGRAMMING. Turn ignition on. Set selector lever to "D" position. Check voltage between engine ground and ECM terminals No. 50 (TP sensor 1) and No. 69 (TP sensor 2). See TP SENSOR VOLTAGE  table. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, replace electric throttle control actuator. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - PATHFINDER article. Perform relearn. See PROGRAMMING .
    TP SENSOR VOLTAGE

    Terminal No. Accelerator Pedal Voltage
    50 (Throttle Position Sensor 1)
..... Fully Released More Than 0.36
..... Fully Depressed Less Than 4.75
    69 (Throttle Position Sensor 2)
..... Fully Released Less Than 4.75
..... Fully Depressed More Than 0.36
  6. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
