Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Loosen and retighten engine ground screws. Go to next step.
  2. Disconnect APP sensor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and APP sensor terminal No. 12 with CONSULT-II or tester. Voltage should be approximately 5 volts. If yes, go to next step. If no, repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  3. Turn ignition off. Check harness continuity between engine ground and APP sensor terminal No. 9. Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power. If yes, go to next step. If no, repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  4. Disconnect ECM 116-pin harness connector. For ECM location, see Figure. Check harness continuity between ECM terminal No. 106 and APP sensor terminal No. 11. Continuity should exist. Also check harnesses for short to ground and short to power. If yes, go to next step. If no, repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  5. Reconnect all disconnected harness connectors. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and ECM terminal No. 106. See APP SENSOR VOLTAGE  table. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, replace APP sensor. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - PATHFINDER article. Perform appropriate procedures under PROGRAMMING .

    98 (Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 2)
    ..... Fully Released 0.15-0.60
    ..... Fully Depressed 1.95-2.40
    106 (Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 1)
    ..... Fully Released 0.5-1.0
    ..... Fully Depressed 3.9-4.7
  6. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
