Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PNP switch 2-pin harness connector. See Fig 1. Check continuity of Black wire between engine ground and PNP switch harness connector terminal No. 1. Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to voltage. If problem is found, go to next step. If no problem is found, go to step 3.
- Check for open in circuits between ground and PNP switch. See ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, repeat appropriate DTC confirmation test.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM 116-pin harness connector. For ECM location, see Figure. Check continuity of Black/Yellow wire (changes to Blue at ECM) between PNP switch harness connector terminal No. 2 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 102. See Figure. Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to ground and short to voltage. If problem is found, go to next step. If no problem is found, go to step 5.
- Check following:
- Check for poor, loose, corroded or damage to terminal connections in in-line harness connectors F22 and M33. See ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Check for poor, loose, corroded or damage to terminal connections in in-line harness connectors B50 and M70.
- Check for open or short in circuit between ECM and PNP switch.
- Check continuity between PNP switch terminals No. 1 and 2. See Fig 2. When transmission is in Park or Neutral, continuity should exist. When transmission in not Park or Neutral, continuity should not exist. If continuity is as specified, go to next step. If continuity is not as specified, replace PNP switch.
- No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
