Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- If using scan tool, go to next step. If using CONSULT-II, turn ignition on. Using CONSULT-II, select MAIN SW, SET SW, and CANCEL SW in DATA MONITOR mode. Check each switch output. Each switch should indicate ON when pressed, and OFF when released. If data is correct, go to step 5. If data is not correct, go to step 3.
- Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and ECM harness connector terminal No. 99 while pressing each button. See ASCD STEERING SWITCH VOLTAGE SIGNALS table. If voltage is not correct, go to next step. If voltage is correct, go to step 5.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ASCD steering wheel switch harness connector. Check continuity between ground and ASCD steering wheel switch harness connector terminal No. 2. Also, check for short to power on circuit. If any problem exists, go to next step. If problems do not exist, go to step 5.
- Check following:
- Check for poor, loose, corroded or damage to terminal connections in in-line harness connectors and spiral cable. See ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Check for poor, loose, corroded or damage to terminal connections in in-line harness connectors.
- Check for open in circuit between ASCD steering wheel switch and ECM.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM 116-pin harness connector. For ECM location, see Figure. Check continuity between ASCD steering wheel switch harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 99. See Figure. Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to ground or short to voltage. If problem is found, go to next step. If no problem is found, go to step 7.
- Check ASCD steering wheel switch resistance between switch terminals No. 1 and 2. See ASCD STEERING WHEEL SWITCH RESISTANCE table. If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, replace ASCD steering wheel switch.
- No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
