Possible Causes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

ECM illuminates MIL and sets DTC P1130, when improper voltage or vacuum signal is sent to ECM. Three malfunctions are possible, they are as follows:

  1. Malfunction "A"

DTC sets when an improper voltage signal is sent to ECM through swirl control valve control solenoid valve. Possible causes are as follows:
    • Swirl control valve control solenoid valve circuit is open or shorted.
    • Defective swirl control valve control solenoid valve.
  2. Malfunction "B"

DTC sets when the vacuum signal is not sent to swirl control valve under specified driving conditions, even though swirl control valve control solenoid valve is ON. Possible causes are as follows:
    • Swirl control valve control solenoid valve circuit is open or shorted.
    • Defective swirl control valve control solenoid valve.
    • Intake air leaks.
    • Defective vacuum hoses and tubes between intake manifold, vacuum tank and swirl control valve actuator.
    • Defective swirl control valve actuator.
    • Defective swirl control valve control vacuum check switch.
    • Defective MAF sensor.
    • Defective CKP sensor (REF).
    • Defective TP sensor.
    • Defective APP sensor.
  3. Malfunction "C"

DTC sets when the vacuum signal is sent to swirl control valve even though swirl control solenoid valve is OFF. Possible causes are as follows:
    • Swirl control valve control solenoid valve circuit is open or shorted.
    • Defective swirl control valve control vacuum check switch.
    • Defective CKP sensor (REF).
    • Defective TP sensor.
    • Defective APP sensor.
    • Defective vacuum hoses and tubes between intake manifold, vacuum tank and swirl control valve actuator.
    • Defective swirl control valve control solenoid valve.
