Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect throttle control motor relay. Check voltage between ground and throttle control motor relay terminals No. 1 and 3 with CONSULT-II or tester. Battery voltage should exist. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step. If voltage is as specified, go to step  3.
  2. Check the following:
    • Fuse No. 70 (15-amp).
    • Harness for open and short between throttle control motor relay and battery.

Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.

  3. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Check continuity between ECM harness connector terminal No. 3 and throttle control motor relay harness connector terminal No. 5. Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power. If any problem is found, go to next step. If no problem is found, go to step  5.
  4. Check the following:
    • Harness connectors E1 and M1.
    • Harness connectors M33 and F22.
    • Harness for open and short between throttle control motor relay and ECM.
Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  5. Check continuity between ECM harness connector terminal No. 104 and throttle control motor relay harness connector terminal No. 2. Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power. If any problem is found, go to next step. If no problem is found, go to step  7.
  6. Check the following:
    • Harness connectors E1 and M1.
    • Harness connectors M33 and F22.
    • Harness for open and short between throttle control motor relay and ECM.
Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  7. Check throttle control motor resistance between terminals No. 3 and 6. Resistance should be 1-15 ohms at 77°F (25°C). If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, replace electric throttle control actuator. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - PATHFINDER article. Perform relearn. See PROGRAMMING . After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST.
