Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect crankshaft position sensor harness connector. Check for continuity (resistance) between sensor terminals No. 1 and 2, 1 and 3, and 2 and 3. If resistance exists (zero ohms or no continuity does not exist), go to next step. If zero ohms or no continuity exists, replace crankshaft position sensor.
  2. Disconnect camshaft position sensor harness connector. Check for continuity (resistance) between sensor terminals No. 1 and 2, 1 and 3, and 2 and 3. If resistance exists (zero ohms or no continuity does not exist), go to next step. If zero ohms or no continuity exists, replace camshaft position sensor.
  3. Visually inspect camshaft notches for camshaft position sensor. If no problem is found, go to next step. If any chips or damage is found, replace camshaft.
  4. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
