Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Loosen and retighten engine ground screws.
  2. Disconnect PSP sensor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and PSP sensor terminal No. 1 (Blue wire). Voltage should be approximately 5 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  3. Turn ignition off. Check harness continuity between engine ground and PSP sensor terminal No. 3 (Black/Pink wire). Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to power. If no problem is found, go to next step. If any problem is found, repair open circuit or short to power in harness or connectors.
  4. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Check harness continuity between ECM terminal No. 12 and PSP sensor terminal No. 2 (Red/Black wire). Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power. If no problem is found, go to step . If any problem is found, repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  5. Reconnect all harness connectors disconnected. Start engine and let it idle. Check voltage between ECM terminal No. 12 and ground. When steering wheel is turned, voltage should approximately 0.5-4.0 volts. When steering wheel is not turned, voltage should approximately 0.4-0.8 volt. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, replace PSP sensor.
  6. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
