DTC 18, 21, 22, 25, 26, 31, 32, 35 or 36: (Wheel Sensor Or Rotor)

  1. Visually check each wheel sensor for damage. Replace as necessary. If wheel sensors look okay, disconnect ABS actuator/control unit 31 pin harness connector and the 2 pin harness connector to wheel sensor that set DTC. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) IDENTIFICATION  . Check terminals for damage or loose connections. If a problem is found, repair as necessary. Reconnect connectors, then go to next step.
  2. Perform self-diagnostic procedures again. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS  . Check ABS warning light. If ABS warning lamp stays on again, go to next step. If ABS warning lamp does not stay on, system is okay.
  3. Disconnect ABS actuator/control unit 31 pin harness connector. Measure resistance between ABS actuator/control unit terminals. Resistance should be 1.45-1.85 Ohms (front) and 1.05-1.35 Ohms (rear).
    • Code No. 21 or 22 (front RH wheel) Terminals 4 (Black wire) and 5 (White wire)
    • Code No. 25 or 26 (front LH wheel) Terminals 6 (Green wire) and 7 (Red wire)
    • Code No. 31 or 32 (rear RH wheel) Terminals 1 (Light Green wire) and 3 (Purple wire)
    • Code No. 35 or 36 (rear LH wheel) Terminals 8 (Blue wire) and 9 (Pink wire)
    If resistance is as specified, go to step  5 . If resistance is not as specified, go to next step.
  4. Measure resistance between each wheel sensor 2-pin connector terminals. Resistance should be 1.45-1.85 Ohms (front) and 1.05-1.35 Ohms (rear). If resistance is as specified, repair harness and connectors between ABS actuator/control unit and wheel sensor connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If resistance is not as specified, replace affected wheel sensor.
  5. Check tire for correct size, pressure and wear. Adjust tire pressure or replace tire as necessary. If tire pressure or tire is okay, check wheel bearing axial end play to see if it is within specifications. See ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION for specifications, inspection, removal and installation procedures. If clearances are okay, go to next step.
  6. Check sensor rotor teeth for damage. Replace as necessary. If sensor rotor is okay, check control unit pin terminals or harness connector for damage. If a problem is found, repair as necessary. See FRONT WHEEL SENSOR ROTOR  or REAR WHEEL SENSOR ROTOR  . After repairs, reconnect connectors and retest system.
