Fuel Gauge Circuit Check
- Check Fuel Gauge Sending Unit Ground Circuit
Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel gauge sending unit harness connector. Using DVOM, check for continuity between ground and terminal No. 5 (Black/White) at appropriate sending unit connector terminal. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair open or poor connection in ground circuit (Black/White wire).
- Check Fuel Gauge Sending Unit
Check fuel gauge sending unit. See FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT
under COMPONENT TESTS. Repair as necessary. If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Check Wire Harness For Open Or Short
Disconnect instrument cluster harness connectors. Using DVOM, check Green wire for continuity between terminal No. 30 (without tachometer) or terminal No. 44 (with tachometer) at appropriate instrument cluster harness connector and appropriate terminal fuel gauge sending unit harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Continuity should be present. Check continuity of Green wire between ground and terminal No. 30 (without tachometer) or terminal No. 44 (with tachometer) at appropriate instrument cluster harness connector. See Figure

. Continuity should not be present. If continuity is as specified, fuel gauge circuit is okay. If continuity is not as specified, repair open or short in Green wire.
